ADJUSTMENTS/ MANIPULATION

The term "adjustment" refers to the specific manipulation applied to vertebrae (spinal colum) or extremities, that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to move/function normally. The objective of the manipulation/specific adjustments is to restore normal joint range of motion as well as stimulate local nerve receptors to help increase circulation not only to the injured or affected joint but to also improve circulation to the surrounding muscle tissues that support the joints. This will help strengthen the muscles and stabilize the joint complexes which results in an increased range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improved function;(overall-"Better health").

Patients that suffer with FIBRMYALGIA/MYOFASCITIS as well as those patients with the following seem to get the best results: pinched nerve syndrome, whiplash trauma, disc protrusions, muscle and joint injuries etc.

The adjustment made by the chiropractor are gentle and applied as pain would allow. We always want our patients to be comfortable. Sometimes with some forms of joint mobilization/Chiropractic adjustments, the patient may hear a slight "popping"(joint cavitation). This is merely a release of nitrogen gas that builds up in a joint due to injury, poor posture or some for of congenital birth defect.

There are times when joint cavitation or cracking does not occur and this is often due to either significant muscle splinting or the patient may not be adequately relaxed during the chiropractic procedure. At times like this, it is sometimes best for the chiropractor and the physical therapist to apply various support therapies such as ice, have the patient rest, or do electrical stimulation and massage prior to attempting manipulation.
